Tuesday 27th Feb: the pond is still liquid – for now!

Our hardy Sailing Section are still sailing on the pond – it seems the wind is preventing the surface icing over although there is ice around the edges and the water temperature must be near to freezing by now! Today there was a good breeze, though fairly variable and very cold, and this led to a number of boats with iced up main and jib sheets which made life interesting on the downwind legs! John Martin’s photos show the frosty scene soon after dawn!
