IOM Summer Race 01, 4th June 2024

When I arrived at the pond this morning Graham had his boat on the water just sitting there in a flat calm. It looked bad, even though we had a reasonable southwesterly forecast, it was bad. We were treated to many wind directions and strengths, sometimes I swear that what there was was going vertically downwards!
I chose a course which kept away from the doldrums round 1 and 3, however this resulted in us having short lags and lots of mark rounding which proved interesting when many boats rounded simultaneously. The good news was that the wind did increase, however this was during the last race of the morning!
The difficult wind didn’t faze John B and Robin who both got a set of consistent results with John B just winning the day on count back.
