IOM Summer Race 12: 20 Aug 2024

IOM sum 24 race 12

Arrived at the pond this morning to sunshine and a moderate southerly breeze, with at times gusts showing with dark patches on the water. Having discussed the point that it would not be a good idea to overnight my superyacht in Sicily we launched our super IOMs.

Not sure whether the wind does just go fluky at 10:15 or if it just looks better from the car park, but the wind on the water was up and down and all over the place making sailing quite interesting. As the morning went on, the wind freshened a little and the sunshine gave way to a few black clouds. I was expecting rain ushered in with a strong breeze and perhaps having to change down to a B rig. As it happened the rain did come in, but not very hard, thanks Nigel for lending me a spray top, and the wind died to virtually nothing. I did change the course round since the virtually nothing breeze appeared to have gone round 180 degrees though it was difficult to assess what direction is was actually coming from.
All in all, John T got the best of it to win the day, even JT managed a last place or two, with Hugh second and Nigel third.
The summer series concludes next week, John M barring a catastrophe should win, with Hugh and John B on equal points in 2nd/3rd places. 2nd place will be down to who does best next week.
