February 29, 2024Club Member David Reith took these photos at Setley Pond today, the 29th February 2024. And guess what… more rain is forecast!
The pond has now extended over the banks which are very slippery with sudden drops into deep water. These drops are hidden by the water, do not paddle! Great care is needed in the vicinity of the pond.

July 6, 2023With regard to our Permit to use the Pond from Forestry England please note the following Rules:
Access is now permitted from 07.00 to 19.00
The Rule of 12 remains in place i.e. maximum of 12 boats on the water at any one time.
No additional structures or buoys can be placed in the Pond
All Vehicles to be parked in designated car parks
Please drive slowly to preserve the road
Anything brought with you take home
No smoking or lighting of fires
All members to carry some form of medicine box (a lot of cars come with one, if not a small First Aid Kit is available from most chemists).
Forestry England will be monitoring the use of the Pond from time to time.
New Information signs have been put up please have a quick read.
Committee Members will have a copy of the Permit in their cars when visiting the Pond in case we are asked for proof of use – please refer any such contact to a member of the Committee. [...]

This model was scratch built and is in excellent condition, with no leaks and is fully working. The electric motor runs on twin 12v Lead Acid Batteries that are included with the boat, along with the stand, and the fitted speed controller. No Rx or Tx supplied.

I am offering for sale a yacht “Lulu” (see photos below) made by my father-In-law, Ken Burton during the 1990’s.
The Radio Controlled Yacht “Lulu” was built to the majority of specifications (Transom modified) detailed in Model Maker Drawing 511 titled “LEO” Designed by W J Daniels” not dated but contains imperial measurements throughout and priced at 5 shillings! I have the Drawing in my possession used for the Build. The radio control system is a “Futaba Attack – Sport AM 27 Digital Proportional Radio Control System)”.
Following WWII, Ken became a highly regarded Toolmaker in the Aero Industry and later the Head of the Woodwork & Metalwork Department at a local school. He made four yachts in total (see photograph above) each with an exceptionally high build quality. He regularly sailed his yachts “Lulu”, “Windrush II”, “Bridie” and “Gremlin” around Setley Pond, often in the company of his brother-in-law Mick (aka Earnest) Chelmick who also built and sailed radio controlled model yachts. Alas, Ken and Mick passed away in 2017 and 2020 respectively.
Lulu has been in “dry dock” in a bedroom for the last 5 or more years and it is time to get her back on the water. If there is any member of your club that would be interested in becoming the new owner, then please don’t hesitate to forward the details. I have placed a sale price of £300 but the money is not important, it is the ownership and use by a passionate RC Yacht enthusiast with an abundance of tender loving care for a yacht with a fine pedigree.
I will of course travel to Setley Pond to enable a full viewing for any interested party.

The tools are mostly of the DIY hand held power type, such as. routers, planers, circular saws etc. I don’t have an inventory but if anyone cares to contact Paul Nixon with a particular need he could send details to them directly. In return a reasonable donation to the Poole Men’s Shed would be acceptable.
