It is with sadness to inform members that the Club have been notified of the
passing of our member Charles Somerville.

The following is from our member John Frost…

Charles peacefully passed away last Thursday, 30th November. He was at home in Christchurch, and very proud that he had reached the age of 98 and a half (he would have insisted that I quote the half).

He was one of the very early members of the Solent Radio Controlled Model Boat Club and retained his membership, for many decades. He served on a mine sweeper, during the second World War and was involved in the Normandy invasion. He was decorated by both British and French Governments for his involvement.

He has insisted on a “natural cremation” which incurs no fuss. His ashes, will be scattered at a favourite holidaying location in Scotland. But not until next summer. He hated the cold. A sad goodbye to a true gentleman.

Our thoughts go out to his wife and family, he will be sadly missed.
