HMS Amethyst (1:96)

HMS Consort (top) and HMS Amethyst

This 1:96 scale model of HMS Amethyst was scratch built from original plans and depicts the ship as she was at the time of the Yangtse Incident. Although now retired and sold, she can be seen on Setley Pond on the SRCMBC website page banner.

The ship was purchased by members of the family of the late Stewart Hett who had been the navigating officer during the ship’s historic escape from the Yangtse River in 1949. The model was part of a display at HMS Collingwood in Gosport back in July (see photo with HMS Consort). Later in the same  day Amethyst was collected by two young officers who took it over to the Navigation suite and is now on display in the foyer of the Endeavor Lounge.
