IOM Summer Race 02: 11th June 2019

IOM Sum 19 race 02
A gentle northeasterly  and sunshine made a pleasant alternative to Monday’s rain. The sunshine even tempted Martin Hart to join us on his flying visit back from sunny Spain.
Race 1 started as normal with John T showing the fleet the way home, however Robin didn’t find conditions to his liking, trailing the fleet. He was though quite relieved to find his lack of boat speed was due to  a large lump of weed on his keel. To compound matters, Robin then got hooked on mark 1 in race 2, not a good day!
Having started the day on a flyer, John T got beached following a racing incident round mark 2 in race 4. Having waited for the wind to swing to the south to blow the boat off, he conceded and waded half way across the lake before the wind finally veered sufficiently to set his boat free. The next start was delayed to allow John to wade back to the shore.
The last race saw John Bradshaw make an excellent first beat, being clear of the fleet at mark 1. John dropped to second on the second lap and third right on the finishing line with Dick making use of the wind filling in from behind.
Away from the minor mishaps, racing was close with four separate race winners in the 6 races, John T, Martin, Dick and John M.
