IOM Winter Race 01, 6th Dec. 2022

Fairly chilly this morning, with a light northerly. Possibly not as cold as last week, but possibly we learnt from last week and wore more clothes!
John B arrived with a new boat, a Widget, numbered 66 like Nigel’s though fortunately quite distinguishable from Nigel’s since it is bright yellow – just like Robin’s.
The wind played tricks on us throughout the course. I found the runs very slow with boats passing on both sides and the shifts up the beats weren’t consistent, enabling large gains or losses to be achieved. Hugh seemed to have mastered the last beat, picking up numerous places helping him to win 5 of the 11 races. John M, John B and Robin clocked up the other wins.
