IOM Spring Race 09, 9th May 2023 – Setley Trophy

IOM Spring 2023 Race 09

Interesting morning, this morning. We were forecast a light southwesterly  breeze, overcast with a probability of rain at some point.
Selecting what to wear was a major issue as the sun had come out and it was quite warm. Most were in sunglasses and rainwear, however the rainwear was discarded halfway through the morning since the rain did not materialise. There were a few dark clouds, but they didn’t look so bad when sunglasses were removed.
I despaired on course setting, what breeze there was, was of different intensities and different directions around the course. I sought sage advice from Robin for course setting on race one, not a good idea, he raced into a half leg lead after a leg and a half! Generally we achieved most points of sailing on most legs when wind did grace us with its presence. At midday a gentle southerly rolled in giving one good race before the end of the session.
John M won the final 3 races to just clinch the Setley Trophy from John B in 2nd and Robin in yet another different boat in 3rd.
